Used text books

Over the years I have been collecting and shipping medical and science textbooks overseas through the Peace and Justice center in Burlington, VT. College teachers donate surplus textbooks to the project. Many times these textbooks would end up in the landfill.

Today we have shipped over 2400 pounds of good usable textbooks to schools overseas. My cost is in time and effort, in addition to a small postal rate. It is a great recycling effort. We also have a similar effort for local jails to receive books and magazines. Both of these projects are easy for any one to start. If you would like more information, feel free to contact me. Come join the fun!

What an excellent idea! After attending college, I had collected a ton of valuable books that weren’t valuable to me any more. I tried selling them to used bookstores, but most of the time, they didn’t want the books because they were already out-of-date since we have an obsession of updating our textbooks every year in the US.

I know a lot of people who just got fed up and threw their books away because they didn’t know what to do with them.

I bet you would get a lot of books by simply placing a couple of boxes on college campuses at the end of each semester.

I have a large number of textbooks that belong to my husband, now deceased. I don't know where to send them. Is there an address/agency that will accept them. They are engineering textbooks in English. Cheers, Island

Great service you render! Too bad it is only for science and medical books. (Anne Thomas, Japan)
