Growing up global

I got tired of traveling around the world and meeting people who could speak 2,3,4 or more languages when most Americans only speak 1. So I decided to do something about it - started a company called Jabberü - Growing up Global. Our goal is to inspire this generation of kids to be good global citizens. We're making foreign language education accessible to young children at an early age -- starting at 12 months. After all it is this generation that will be responsible for making sure we all get along in the future -- and you can't do that unless you understand one another and can communicate.

We're having a blast -- and seeing success, even though we have a long way to go. I'm not a teacher -- i'm a marketer. Spent years developing marketing campaigns to prevent youth smoking, encourage youth voting, etc. the way I see it, we're working on what I think is one of the next really big issues.

Awesome idea - I've always felt the same way. In fact, I'm planning on taking my child abroad for an extended period when she's 5 or 6 to expose her to another culture and help her learn another language.

Best of luck and hope you get up to the NY metro area with this idea soon.

The best way I know to teach children various languages is to address them in the desired one. My children were bilingual from birth. We spoke both French and English and they just picked up each language the way any human learns its original tongue. Children are much like Sponges. and they do also soak up garbage.
