AT&T addresses high school dropout crisis

AT&T announced today that 172 schools and nonprofit organizations across the country will receive $29 million in competitively awarded grants that are designed to support high school retention programs at national and local levels for at-risk students.

The recipient programs of this year's High School Success grants provide a range of support for students, including academic intervention, academic coaching and mentoring and tutoring services that are focused on improving reading and math skills, reducing truancy and building teen confidence. The recipient programs are managed by a variety of governmental and nonprofit organizations, including school districts, townships and education-serving nonprofit organizations.

Hey mate,

Drop out intervention is going to be about as successful as drug intervention.

If kids don't find what they want and need in school, they will drop out.

The question that will make a difference will be, "How do we make school so darn interesting, beneficial, stimulating and realistic that kids will be begging to return after summer vacation, and so will the teachers?"

The answer is NOT standardized tests....

I know, it's a long question, but answering it is vital. Developing interdiction programs will become unnecessary if we just answer that one question.

On a side note, drug abuse. What shifts in FOCUS and Consciousness need to happen NOW, so that kids and adults never consider taking drugs?

How can we create a state of curiosity and love of life so deep that drug use is history?

I invite ODE readers to contact me about developing practical action plans to make this happen.

Drug interdiction isn't working. Drop out interdiction isn't going to make any real progress either.

Interdiction is never the answer, building in a passion for REAL life is.
