Carticipate: The iPhone gets wheels

Carpooling sites are not new to the web, but Carticipate.com has advanced the network into your phone...iPhone that is. They have created an iphone application allows you to broadcast your timing and destination to other iPhone travellers to share or find a ride - which translates into less gas consumed, more new friends, and more money saved. Not to mention the oh so much faster carpool lane.

This is awesome! Gadgets like this really give people a more convenient way of living. The latest buzz on the iPhone has even hit Personalmoneystore.com, a site that has credit repair advice, payday loans, and other finance related articles. It seems that the Internet buzz about the iPhone, Apple's entry into the mobile phone world, which has heretofore only been offered through AT&T, Best Buy, and Apple stores, might be making a new home at Wal Mart. The industry rumor is that Apple is making a special version of the iPhone to be carried at Wal Mart and that it will retail at half of the cost of the most basic iPhone model. The iPhone comes in two memory sizes, the 8-gigabyte and the 16-gigabyte, and the 8 GB model retails for about $200 with a mobile plan. The Wal Mart version will be in a 4 GB model that may retail for $99 with a two-year plan. So far it is just an industry rumor, but there are preliminary reports coming in from insider sources, and even some from Wal Mart store managers in some areas, that claim the phones will be slated to hit the store shelves just around Christmas. The $99 dollar version is intended to harness Wal Mart's extraordinary volume for Christmas shopping, without undercutting the other stores that compete with Wal Mart that sell the iPhone. The retail giant also plans to offer the 8 GB model for $2 less than standard, at $197. Wal Mart should clean up on this deal, and Apple will make themselves the dominant force in the smart phone wars, and boost Wal Mart's lower than usual electronics sales, and the company is even going to be bringing in third party advisors to educate staff and consumers about using the technology. You may not need fast payday loans to get your hands on an iPod after all, just so long as you're prepared to wait until after Christmas. There are reports out there that Wal-Mart could have a 4 GB model by late December. Sources like Apple Insider claim there is a possibility that Apple and AT&T will supply Wal-Mart with the special model (current iPhones are 8 GB or 16 GB) that could sell with a two-year contracts for $99, which is half the price of the 8GB model sold under the same carrier agreement and may allow frantic shoppers to ignore looking for a payday loan boost. While this is still currently a rumor, it may tie into a more substantiated agreement by which Wal-Mart has largely been confirmed to begin selling iPhones on December 28th, a move that will reportedly extend to 2,500 of its locations and 69 Sam’s Club outlets. The San Jose Mercury News was told by one Wal-Mart store manager that Apple had hoped to supply the discount stores with iPhones before Christmas but that they "can't get them that fast to us." One cell phone department manager at a Milpitas, California Wal-Mart informed the Mercury News that her store would be getting a 4 GB model. The manager also said her store was expecting to get some iPhones two days before Christmas. MacRumors is reporting that feedback from Wal-Mart staff leads it to believe the $99 iPhone rumor is "unlikely."
