Sencity at Sea: The return of Sencity!

Thursday - Jamaica
We used this Thursday to lick our wounds. Everybody did whatever they wanted to do, some went diving in the seas of Jamaica, some saw the waterfalls, some of us went to a Bob Marley Museum, some of us did some other typical Jamaican stuff…

My tour manager had a call with the entertainment cruise director. He apologized for the breakdowns of the night before and offered us two new opportunities. The deaf dancers and the sign dancers can dance on Friday night, when there is a Miami Nightclub party on the deck. And on top of that, we get another chance on Saturday night in the Crypt, which is the nightclub on the ship. Although only 150 people fit in there, and there is not a real stage, it is more a Sencity-like place as our whole concept started in this kind of music venue. Possibilities are growing again!

At 8:30 pm we all meet together again. I let everybody share his or her thoughts. In the beginning I saw some disappointment on their faces but now that everybody got to express their feelings, their disappointment disappears. Everything is being said including tough words but also big acknowledgements. We realized how far we got. For the first time we have crossed the ocean and did a performance on this incredibly huge ship, which is a phenomenon itself, not even mentioning that there are 4,000 deaf people on this cruise!

Friday – somewhere close to Cuba
Everybody gets excited about the new opportunities. This morning we had a meeting with Russell, the deck manager. Russell comes from Australia and he is… like you would image an Australian to be. Everything is cool with him, whatever we want. He understands what we have been going through the last few days and is willing to create a mind-blowing night. When we are about the close the meeting I ask him how many people he expects. “Normally this party is the biggest thing on the ship”.

Again the sun starts to shine, in all kinds of ways. We completed the past, that is not in our heads anymore. Tonight will be the night!
Again.
